Ever since the book Fruits came out in 2001 I have loved the Harajuku culture.  Fruits are what the kids who dress up in Japan are known as.  They take the idea of self expression through fashion to another level.  They have done so much to inspire our culture and the fashion world.  Celebrities such as Gwen Stefani and Nicki Minaj have been greatly influenced by their style.  This past weekend I was in Royal-T in culver city.  Royal-T is a japanese tea house, and the owner is one of the largest collectors of Harajuku style art.  The tea house will be closing this month, but throughout it's time being open there has been a rotating display of much of her collection. Pictured above are some of the items now on display in the restaurant and store.  The rubber ducky wig is my favorite.
This Tuesday Louis Vuitton will be launching a collection with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.  The collection above is a fun summer collection filled with Kusama's dots.  Her artwork can be seen all over the world.  Fashion, celebrities, and so much of our culture today is influenced by our love of Fruits.
