Bacterial Beauty

Maia Bergman is 23 and a graduate from Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in the UK, and she is well on her way to be a young designer to watch.  She was one of the finalists this year from the H&M Design Award 2013, and I am in love with her collection.

Maia was quoted saying on the H&M Design award site "This collection aims to be extremely girly but with a messy grunge feel. I was looking into the 90’s “matchy-matchy” style as seen in the Versace supermodels looks. The metallics and the soft pastels are taking from that mood, aiming to get a uniform look within a matching outfit. I was also inspired by Stephen Sprouse, looking into his ludic, free style ways and his “uptown sophistication with a downtown punk sensibility”.
But what I loved most about what she said about this collection was that she was inspired by bacterial patterns, much of what the beading inspiration is drawn from.  I love when artists draw from nature to create beautiful design.  Maia's beading is so intricately done, and her color choices are definitely perfection.  My favorite piece is definitely the one pictured above on the left, but all of them are so incredibly feminine and lovely.
